The Persuadables

The art collective DISNOVATION.ORG created two related projects called Online Culture Wars and Profiling the Profilers:

The map Online Culture Wars is an overlay of hundreds of politicised memes, along with influential political figures and symbols. Using the Political Compass as a framework, this cartography offers a symbolic representation of online ideological and political debates, and their growing polarisation, politicisation, and radicalisation orchestrated by different political and cultural influencers. It is designed as a discussion starter, intended to visualise and contextualise the ongoing online culture wars.

The video Online Culture Wars (called THE PERSUADABLES) focuses on the political instrumentalisation of the tools, techniques, and infrastructures of the web, with particular attention to social media as an ecosystem of influence and online manipulation of opinion. It exposes some practices broadly used for online propaganda, as well as the creative responses they trigger in civil society.

The second project is an installation called Profiling the Profilers that seizes the means of data analytics to create a series of psychological, cultural, and political profiles of the most data-extractivist Big Tech companies of our time: gafam, natu, batx, and others. It is composed of cardboard boxes and 2 TVs. It is based on a real-time online system that profiles Big Tech Companies like Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, and others.
