Erkan Affan

Erkan Affan (b.1994) is a curator & writer born in London and currently based in Berlin. Through both academic and artistic mediums, Erkan explores the intersections of sexuality, gender, migration and west Asian diasporic identity in their work. In 2018 they completed a research project for University College London’s ‘Migration Research Unit’ on queer worldmaking among Turkish* migrant communities in Berlin, relocating to the city permanently thereafter. Since then, Erkan has co-founded the Queer Arab Barty collective in 2019, curated a radio show titled “ORIENTation Plan” for Cashmere Radio in 2020, and most recently completed a curatorial commission with the city-administered heritage site “Bärenzwinger Berlin” that launched in March 2021 – featuring artworks and contributions from over twenty, BIPOC-identifying artists & activists.
