“Murder Psalm” is Brakhage’s first and so far only analysis with found material. A conversation out of different kinds of images taken from the most varied genres and categories - from unicoloured, entirely abstract frames and disintegrated, hardly visible television images to scenes of a fifties movie and fragments of animation films. Many takes are alienated, appearing as negative, in manipulated colours, destructed image surfaces, overexposure and the like. Suddenly there are realistic, almost overfocused images, but kept so short they are barely perceived. Only by the repetition, continuation or relation to other passages do they become comprehendable.
