Öndivatbemutató (Self Fashion Show)

Despite his early death, the happening artist and poet Tibor Hajas is numbered among the most important Hungarian artists of his generation. In his short film Öndivatbemutató (Self Fashion Show), 1976 made in the Balázs Béla Stúdió (BBS), passersby on a busy square in the heart of Budapest are asked to assume a pose of their own choice for the space of a minute and to present themselves as “models of their own destiny”. The insecurity and manipulability of the persons propositioned becomes clearly visible and is underscored by the addition of commentary in which three speakers evaluate the performances and instruct the models how to improve their presentation.
