Krause – oder ein beschriebener Film ist halt wie ein erzähltes Mittagessen

BRD 1988

Krause, the individualist, played by the actor and filmmaker Michael Krause, first tries his hand as a color field painter before switching to the medium of video. What he creates resembles experimental film, yet cannot help but remind one of famous works of art. Rooms, spaces and landscapes implode, are revealed to be simulations of reality. Krause ultimately takes refuge in the outdated cinematic myths of Raymond Chandler, but the search for his own identity is in vain. Shot on Super 8 and 16 mm film, the short work by Christoph Doering has been described as an “artist’s drama that mercilessly questions the conditions of creativity in the age of ever developing ‘new media’.” (Oliver Held)
