Neverland Rising

Werewolves in Neverland: In 2010 the Staatsschauspiel Hannover realized the youth theatre project Neverland under the direction of Robert Lehniger, which weaves together the tragic figure of Michael Jackson with the story of Peter Pan in a grotesque manner. It is no coincidence that Jackson christened his estate in California after the name of Peter Pan’s island. There he had an enormous child’s paradise built. Tobias Yves Zintel contributed video sequences to the play developed with 26 youths, and made with them a film in its own right. In Neverland Rising Zintel focuses on the difficult transitional phase between childhood and adulthood – the teenage years as an ambivalent state between the urge to individual identity and the tendency to conform, between violence and vulnerability, between innocence and sexual awakening.
