A satirical animated cartoon film about the West German economic miracle. Figures with pointed caps pop up out of the ruins of destroyed cities, unite in a joint effort of reconstruction, and then part again to pursue their individual careers. One builds a little house and the others follow his example. One rides his bike, the others follow him. The bike becomes a motorcycle, a car, and then a limousine. In the newly constructed industrial landscape, washing-machines and madonnas are manufactured on the assembly line – as well as garden gnomes. A wave of pot-bellied German tourists sweeps through Europe. The affluent citizens celebrate parties and fatten themselves up at buffets, until they themselves turn into clay garden gnomes and wind up in the dustbin.
