Darf ich mal unterbrechen

DE 2009

With the interjection, "May I interrupt", a scene begins during the first Central Round Table of the GDR on 7 December 1998, in which those present try to agree on a joint reaction to a loud demonstration in front of the house, until it finally simply moves on. Three months later, shortly before the Volkskammer elections in March 1990, this Round Table read out its draft constitution for the GDR, which never came into force. With the video scene and the original document of the draft constitution, the installation opens the view to two moments in which an attempt was made to inscribe, to solidify the energies of autumn 89. The power of the documents is not so much fed by the concrete demands formulated in them, but by the feeling that here the gaze is directed - finally and still - to the whole, to the modes of living together. The fact that this gaze here always breaks with the linguistic forms, the law, the learned political speech, also makes the documents testimonies of failure and loss.
