Wipfelperformance - Treetop Performance

Freely, but in a concentrated pose of waiting, Jochen Wüstenfeld and Thomas Werner stand in their "Treetop Performance" on a large chestnut tree in Werkleitz. One of them is facing the town, the other one the Saale shore, their high up position seems to reverse the viewers' situation. As living sculptures in the metaphorical sense, on the border between nature and signs, they emody on the one hand the romantic yearning of a broad view and metaphysical expectation. On the other hand, with the image's immobility and the duration of the action, one hour per day - irregardless of weather conditions - perched on the treetop. Even when having reached their physical limits, they have the certainty of being in precisely the situation which Werkleitz and Tornitz has just provided. Martin Conrath
