Mexico-Residency 2012 for Germany based Media Artists


The Goethe-Institute Mexico offers in cooperation with Fondo Nacional para  la Cultura y las Artes (FONCA), Mexico, Werkleitz Centre for Media Art, Halle (Saale) and Centro Multimedia of the Centro Nacional de las Artes, Mexico-City six to eight consecutive weeks residency in Mexico-City for Germany based media artists. Knowledge of Spanish or English is necessary!

The residency implies the travel costs from Germany to Mexico-City, free accomodation in the place asigned by FONCA, per diems of ca. 30,- Euros/day, access to a computer workstation at the Centro Multimedia and an optional final presentation/exhibition. Invited are media artists based in Germany working with digital media such as Internet, computer art, film/video or sound. The residency will take place in the first quarter of 2012.

Call for entries 2012/13: starting approximately May 2012

Application Procedure:
Please supply the following Information (You can add more extensive information, in the set-up you prefer, but the selection panel will make a first 'long-lists' selection based on the information you provide in the answers on the following questions):

1. Describe the main ideas, concepts and / or concerns in your general work (max. 100 words).
2. Give a short outline of the project you propose for the Mexico residency (max. 150 words).
3. How does the project you propose relate to your previous work (max. 100 words).
4. If this project is the next stage of an already started project please describe exactly the differences between the current stage and what you want to develop in your residency (max. 50 words).
5. Please inform us about all technical aspects of your project. What equipment/applications/etc will you use? What can be arranged by yourself and what should be provided by the hosting organization? Are you familiar with the equipment/applications or would you like to use your residency to skill yourself or develop techniques/applications/equipment/etc (max. 50 words).
6. Will you be able to finish the project within the six weeks period of the Mexico Residency or will you need to finish the work somewhere else? Please give us a BASIC idea of the various stages in the project with an attached time-line. (max. 50 words).
7. Is your project in any way related to the regional context? If, so please explain how? (max. 50 words).
8. Please supply a Curriculum Vitae and documentation of works (CD-Rom, DVD, Web, Catalogues or others; max. 3 examples, no originals! Materials can't be returned!!!)

Werkleitz Art Council will nominate 5 candidates out from the entered applications to be forwarded to the FONCA Mexican jury. The nominees have to be prepared to send an English or Spanish translation via email to Werkleitz straight within a week after notification. Notification of the jury's decision will be in email writing, without any commentary about the decision. The applicant can not appeal against this decision.
