Serious Ladies

DE 2013

Inspired by the novel Two Serious Ladies by Jane Bowles and texts by Virginie Despentes, the film revolves around the question, what are serious ladies actually like? Three women, all played by the actress Susanne Sachsse, who was engaged for several years at the theatre Berliner Ensemble, discourse with one another in telephone and doorbell-intercom monologues. One of the women walks on the stage at Berliner Ensemble and finds herself on the set of Brecht’s The Mother. Another woman slices a large piece of raw meat. “I was always very proud of never being sinful or abnormal and glad to be just bad-natured and unsatisfied.”
