Mediale Praktiken. Die Séance als Format und Verfahren der Kunst
Verena Kuni will take the artistic engagement with mediums into her sights: from surrealism to the present. In particular, she will focus on the conditions that bring the artist to enter the role of the medium. For example, she will explore media historical references from an art-sociological perspective, and pose the question of what functions are fulfilled by access to esoteric traditions and related forms of self-staging in the artistic field.
Verena Kuni teaches at the intersection between art and media studies: alongside contemporary art and current media culture, relations to media archaeology, technology, and the history of science play a role. On the field of “mediumism and art”, she has held lectures and workshops, published widely, and produced a radio play. Her publications reflect the breadth of her research on (self) staging and authorship, artist myths, electronic art, net culture, and cyber-feminism.
