The idea for Animalperformances goes back on a TV show about lab monkeys who are caged for medical tests. Their bored, irritated and sad faces inspired the artist to communicate with them in an unusual form: She developed a series of performances for animals. Joanna Rytel dances in front of sheep, goats, horses, cows and monkeys. The human viewer is put into the role of the voyeur who watches the animals who watch the artist. Thereby the viewer is disposed of his usual passivity.
